Students will be able to know how "ing" verbs are formed.

You probably saw verbs like "mixing", "chewing", or "sitting" on previous pages. Those words are all verbs- sometimes they are used as progressive verbs and sometimes they are used as gerunds.

Progressive Verbs: These verbs are formed with be + main verb + ing. An example of this in a sentence is "Sally asked for a cup of sugar while I was cooking" (was is the "be" verb).

Gerunds: can act like nouns. An example of this in a sentence is: "After you finish cooking, it is important to do a good cleaning." "Cooking" and "cleaning" both act like nouns and are gerunds in this sentence.
